Community Meeting re: Toronto South Detention Centre

We will be attending a community meeting on Thursday February 26th regarding the conditions of the Toronto South Detention Centre.

We of course believe that all forms of detention are cruel and tortuous. There are some local community members who are enraged at the two recent deaths in the detention centre, one from an overdose and the other a suicide. There has also been a recent lockdown of the centre for seven days straight.

The detention centre has been labelled as a state-of-the-art health care unit. We all know that is far from the truth. Local community members want people to know that the two deaths and horrible conditions are not going unnoticed. We fully endorse the commitment of local communities to challenge the Ontario/Canadian prison systems.

Please come out and meet with us and many concerned individuals to talk about what we can all do to support those on the inside.
